2008 IIT Commencement

Regalia (Cap and Gown)
All students are expected to report the Expo Center in Hermann Hall starting at 7 a.m. to check in and pick up regalia for those students who did not attend Grad Salute and to receive final instructions. Signs, and greeters will help direct you. If you have already picked up your regalia, please remember to bring it to the ceremony. You will still need to check in.

All graduates are allowed to keep their regalia.

Bachelor's Degree Regalia
The regalia for the bachelor’s degree consist of a cap, bachelor’s gown, and a tassel. Students graduating with honors will be given a cord that also should be worn during Commencement. The cords signify personal achievement and are coded accordingly:

Gold: summa cum laude (with highest praise), GPA 3.90 or above
Silver: magna cum laude (with great praise), GPA 3.80–3.89
White: cum laude (with praise), GPA 3.50–3.79

Master's Degree Regalia
The regalia for the master’s degree consist of a cap, master’s gown, tassel, and a master’s hood with academic department and IIT colors.

Doctoral Degree Regalia
The regalia for the Degree of Doctor of Philosophy consist of a cap, doctoral gown, tassel, and a doctoral hood with academic department and IIT colors.

Additional Regalia—All Students
Before the Opening Ceremony, all students will receive a commemorative medallion that should be worn during Commencement ceremonies.
